NAB 2005 - Check Out New DekTec Products

NAB 2005 marks the introduction of the DTA-160, which is a versatile DVB-ASI - IP gateway on a single-slot short PCI card.
The card hosts a Gigabit Ethernet port and three DVB-ASI ports. All ports are accessible from the PCI bus, with a software interface (DTAPI) that is compatible to that of other DekTec I/O adapters. The Ethernet input features time stamping for IP-jitter analysis, real-time error correction and packet-loss statistics. Ethernet output supports zero-jitter packet scheduling and insertion of error-correction packets.
The DTA-160 is also capable of routing Transport Streams directly from IP to ASI and vice-versa, with on-the-fly FEC insertion/correction, without requiring software running on the host PC except for setting up connections.
DekTec's real-time Transport-Stream analyser, the StreamXpert, complements the DTA-160 with an IP-Jitter Analysis module, and with analysis of Transport Streams over IP. The StreamXpress has also been extended with support for the DTA-160. This allows low-jitter IP-stream generation, with optional FEC, from DekTec's tried and proven player.
Also on show will be the new VISUALmpeg tool set for video-coding analysis and picture-quality measurements of both MPEG-2 Video streams and the latest AVC streams (H.264 / MPEG-4 part 10). VISUALmpeg shows in-depth video-encoding details including macroblock coding modes and types, quantised coefficients, motion vectors etc.

Stuffing Support in DtLoop

DtLoop is DekTec's free utility to "loop" a Transport Stream from one DekTec adapter to another. DtLoop can be used to create a modulator with real-time input originating from e.g. a DVB-ASI input on a DTA-120.
To further enhance the modulator experience, DtLoop has been extended with a powerful stuffing option (and it's still free!). Packet stuffing allows any Transport Stream with a rate below the capacity of the output channel to be played out at a certain symbol rate. The output stream is automatically stuffed with null packets and PCR time stamps are adjusted to fit the new rate.

DTA-124 in Full Production

The DTA-124 supports four DVB-ASI input channels on a single-slot short PCI card. The function of a single DTA-124 is equivalent to using four single-channel DTA-120s. Typical applications of the DTA-124 include (re-)multiplexing of MPEG-2 transport streams and monitoring of multiple DVB-ASI streams. The DTA-124 shares the same software interface with DekTec’s other input adapters through the DTAPI library.
The DTA-124 has been released and can be delivered from stock. This is true for all DekTec products: any product listed on www.dektec.com can be delivered from stock. This means that any PCI card or USB adapter can be delivered to any country of the world within one week after receipt of your order!

Tip - Scheduled Recording and Play-Out

You can use the Windows task scheduler to start an instance of DtPlay or DtRecord at an arbitrary time, or at regular scheduled intervals. This allows you to create simple forms of scheduled play-out and record, at no additional costs.
DekTec will add suitable command-line options to DtGrabber and StreamXpress, so that these tools can benefit from scheduling too. A potential problem is sequential scheduling of recording or play-out tasks on the same card. To avoid resource conflicts, the applications will be extended with an option that keeps trying until the card is available again.
The idea for this tip comes from Mr. Thoma from Thomson.
