DekTec is using NAB to unveil what it believes are the first ever Transport Stream over IP (TSoIP) to Digital Video converters to feature Power over Gigabit Ethernet technology, giving new and unprecedented flexibility to expand server I/O. The first two products in the family are being launched at NAB, and convert DVB-ASI streams to and from TSoIP for transmission on Gigabit Ethernet networks.
The units can be used either as compact autonomous gateways, or as remote I/O devices for server-based data inserters, stream servers, multiplexers and similar systems. The new DekTec DTE-31xx family of TSoIP adapters can interface MPEG-2 transport streams with PC-based applications via an Ethernet network, giving much greater flexibility to system architecture. As a result, content capture and streaming devices can be located further from the central server, and the number of I/O ports is no longer constrained by the availability of PCI slots on the server.
Up to 14 modules can be installed in 3U 19" rack space using the DekTec rack-mountable rail, or the units can be mounted on a DIN rail directly on a wall. The networked I/O architecture obsoletes the need for device drivers, creating independence of the server's Operating System.
A significant innovation in the DekTec DTE-31xx family is support for Power over Ethernet (PoE). When used with a PoE compatible network, the TSoIP converters do not require a separate power feed, as they can draw their power from the Ethernet network. A power jack is still offered, however, where PoE is not available. Initially, DekTec is releasing two products, the DTE-3100 for conversion of incoming TSoIP streams to a DVB-ASI output, and the DTE-3120 for transmitting incoming DVB-ASI streams over an Ethernet network using TSoIP.
The DTE-3100 accepts unicast, broadcast and multicast streams over its Gigabit-Ethernet port, and converts the TSoIP stream to DVB-ASI. Key features include de-encapsulation of UDP or RTP, accurate timing reconstruction using innovative algorithms to overcome IP jitter, as well as error correction according to SMPTE-2022-1.
Conversely, the DTE-3120 accepts DVB-ASI streams for transmission as TSoIP via Gigabit Ethernet. The converter generates unicast, broadcast and multicast streams using encapsulation in UDP or RTP and can optionally add SMPTE 2022-1 error-correction packets. A special feature of the DTE-3120 is a loop-through with fail-over relays for input-to-output connection in the event of power failure.
Both devices support SNMP management, and have a web-based user interface for configuration purposes, as well as retrieving status information and performance statistics. An LCD status display with user-programmable identifier is also offered on each unit.
Dektec is announcing a breakthrough in server network connectivity, and a new solution for real-time monitoring of transport streams at NAB in Las Vegas, 11-17 April 2008.

Also new from DekTec at NAB is Xpect, a Transport Stream monitoring application offering DVB conformance testing according to TR 101 290 in real-time. The application can confirm the presence and properties of services, service components and tables against a user-defined template. Xpect captures the monitored Transport Stream to a file upon detection of a TR 101 290 or template error, and offers a pre-trigger buffer to give a recording of events that preceded the violation. Extensive logging functionality allows detailed statistical information to be recorded for each individual service, component and table as well as for the whole Transport Stream.
DekTec's growing presence in the nascent Mobile TV arena was highly evident from the plethora
of exhibitors at 3SGSMA using DekTec streamers.
A great variety of exhibitors were deploying the DTA-115 in
exotic PC formats to power their DVB-H demonstrations. Other mobile TV Technologies supported
by the DTA-115 are 1-segment ISDB-T and DMB-T/H, with more standards to come!
"It was pleasing to meet many exhibitors who already use or know of DekTec from the digital video industry are now migrating to this new and rapidly developing area. This awareness greatly assists DekTec to get its forthcoming products to market quickly" says Nilesh Mandalia, sales director of DekTec. "I've received many requests for OEM components to assist in the convergence of Video and the Mobile Phone market."
As a direct result of the exhibition, DekTec will shortly be announcing a new product offering to assist in the in-depth analysis of DVB-H. This will be bundled with the ever popular range of USB-2 FantASI modules and PCI cards.
Judging by the results, DekTec will have an even greater presence at the next show!
DekTec's growing presence in the UK took a further step forward with a booth especially for DekTec products at Broadcast Live / VideoForum 2008, organised jointly with Digi-Box.co.uk. Nilesh Mandalia, VP Sales at DekTec, was pleased to welcome old and new clients at the booth, which provided a good chance to discuss the various opportunities in digital delivery in the UK.
The stars of the DekTec booth were the end-to-end DVB-T demonstration powered by the DTA-115-SP. Visitors were amazed
what a small cost-effective card can do! The DTA-115 comes with DVB-T/H, ATSC, QAM Annex A, B & C and a bi-directional
ASI Input/Output port as standard with ISDBT & DMB-T/H as options. Digi-Box.co.uk helped to show off the
portability by integrating the card into a compact Shuttle PC.
A demonstration of the newly released DTU-245 with DVBAnalyzer continues to astound DekTec's existing clients with new features. The advanced TS analyser offers teletext, subtitling and data carrousel decoding / analysis and much more! As a result of the show, DekTec have made additional plans to offer the new DVBAnalyzer as an upgrade to the large installed base of customers along with a new bundle with the ever popular DTU-245 FantASI USB-2 ASI/SDI I/O adapter.
Judging by the results, James Nakanda, Product Manager at Digi-Box.co.uk is sure to be busy in 2008 and beyond! The BLVF exposition is sure to be a premier show for the local UK Broadcast Industry and DekTec wishes it all the best for the next event.
